How the MeatingUp Meal Planner Builds Your Week

The plain rules our free planner follows: meal slots, no repeats, rotating meats, swap and shuffle, and how the grocery list adds up.

The MeatingUp meal planner builds a week of meals from the recipes on this site. It doesn’t use an AI service and it doesn’t learn from you. It follows a handful of plain rules, the same way every time, and that’s on purpose: it means you can bookmark a week, share it, or come back to it next month and get exactly the same plan.

What you choose

  • Meals a day: one (dinner), two (lunch and dinner) or three (breakfast, lunch and dinner).
  • Meats: any mix of beef, pork, lamb, chicken, turkey, fish, eggs and organ meats. Leave it empty for all of them.
  • Longest cook: from 15 minutes up to 90. Slow cooker recipes only appear if you allow the time.
  • Servings: how many people each meal feeds. The grocery list scales every recipe to match.

The rules it follows

  1. Each slot gets a recipe made for that meal. If nothing fits a slot, it uses any matching recipe and tells you.
  2. No recipe appears twice in the week while there are unused ones left.
  3. Two meals in a row never use the same meat if another choice exists.
  4. Meats take turns, so a week with beef, pork and chicken uses each of them about equally.

Swap and shuffle

Don’t fancy Tuesday’s dinner? “Swap” replaces just that meal with the next recipe that fits the rules. “Shuffle the week” starts again with a different order. Both are saved in the page address, so the link you copy is the week you see.

The grocery list

“Grocery list for this week” turns the plan into one shopping list. The same ingredient from different recipes is added together: half a pound of ground beef in two recipes becomes one line for a pound. Weights and spoon measures are converted so they can be added, and amounts are rounded up to sensible shop sizes. Things that can’t be measured the same way, like “2 steaks” or “salt to taste”, stay as their own lines rather than being guessed.

The planner is a cooking tool. It doesn’t know anything about your health or nutrition needs, and it isn’t medical advice.
